Trebanos Start Second Championship Season With A Bang

This was the opening game of Trebanos's second season in the WRU National Championship, the club having exceeded all expectations to finish a creditable 3rd last season.

The club bade a sad farewell to coaches Ashley Beck and Dan Suter at the end of last season; our sincere thanks are due to them and we wish them well in their new ventures, with Ashley at English Premiership outfit, Worcester Warriors and Dan in his second season at the Dragons. In their place, Rhodri Jones and Steff James.

Several members of last year's playing squad were recruited by Principality Premiership clubs over the summer and we thank those players for their commitment to Trebanos RFC in past seasons and wish them well for the coming season; come back and see us often. The club are fortunate to have talented players from last year's Youth squad making the transition to the Senior squad and have recruited a number of promising players who we warmly welcome to Trebanos RFC; we hope you greatly enjoy your time at Trebanos, both on and off the field.

Newcomers Brandon Hale and Josh Ferriman started with Rhodri Evans and Robert Jones appearing on the bench.

Trebanos received the customary warm welcome from Newcastle Emlyn, and, as usual, the visiting supporters enjoyed their hosts' generous hospitality.

Newcastle Emlyn kicked off, playing towards the clubhouse and with the benefit of a stiff breeze. Lewis Humphries fielded the opening kick off deep in his own 22 and was able to clear to touch close to the half way line. Newcastle Emlyn won ball at the shortened lineout but the resulting maul was held up by Rhod Williams and Trebanos were given the put in to the scrum on half way. Trebanos secured the ball from a good solid scrum and Nathan Jones fed outside half Lewis Humphries who made a lovely break, scything through the NE defence before feeding Steff Lewis; Steff passed on to fellow centre Llyr Davies who stepped inside the opposition full back and raced in for a try under the posts. Matthew Edwards added the conversion to give Trebanos an early 7-0 lead.
